Is this the Magic Formula?

Since this blog site is about having an open forum to discuss Classified issues, I thought it would be good to have a section where we can all talk about the new formula. There were two meetings today and one more tomorrow, and since we all can't be at every meeting, it would be good to have a central place for anyone who would like to voice their comments and concerns before we cast our votes next Friday. Please share issues that you talked about at whichever meeting you went to, since no two meetings are alike, so everything that was discussed can be available to all. Feel free to post your take on the new formula - do you think it will work? Do you see any problems with it?

I didn't have time to attend any of the meetings. What was discussed? Trying to figure out all that legaleze on the formula document in the FUSE folder just made my head hurt!

Because John Lervold did a lot of work on the formula, he did most of the talking. (Thank you for all the hard work, John!) There was a handout that featured differences with both the old & new formulas. A good thing about this new formula is that many gray areas in the old formula have been cleared up now. Maybe FUSE can put the handout in their public folder.

I think it looks pretty thorough, although this year we are not getting the full share that we should because the District has spent too much this year, which is what the 4% is talking about in the Transition Plan email that went out. It's a little concerning that the District will have to owe us because there isn't any time frame given, but hopefully they will hold up their end of the bargain soon.

The part that I'm not clear about when formulas are used is when a classified employee leaves, creating a vacant position, is that salary amount reflected in our percentage of the bucket still, or do we lose that?

I hope that when we do get our share of the 4%, FUSE can pole the membership to see how we all think it should be used before any decisions are made. Just my 2 cents!

So, kg6pir, just what are you complaining about, seems a little vague...what price are you referring to?
